Above, you can see the square that Andee made in 3 colors! Below is my CAL square, in my 5 colors of Red Heart With Love - Merlot, Mallard, Boysenberry, Cornsilk, and Black.
Details for MooglyCAL2025 Block 21
My Notes: The Retro Ric Rac Afghan Square is designed for us by Andee Graves of Mamas 2 Hands. She has created a timeless square with simple yet varied stitches and great color options. The last few rounds make adjusting for size easy, and the pattern is written to minimize ends. I like the way the pattern turns so that you end up with a nicely squared square! It's an enjoyable square, a relatively quick make, and perfect for all skill levels.

Sizing: My square was coming out a little large, so I changed Rnd 15 to single crochet and skipped Rnd 17. But everyone's gauge is different, so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to ensure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down, not diagonally/corner to corner.
What I Did:
I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):
Rnds 1 and 2: Black
Rnd 3: Cornsilk
Rnd 4: Black
Rnd 5: Boysenberry
Rnd 6: Black
Rnd 7: Mallard
Rnd 8: Black
Rnd 9: Merlot
Rnds 10 and 11: Black
Rnd 12: Cornsilk
Rnd 13: Boysenberry
Rnd 14: Mallard
Rnd 15: Merlot
Rnd 16: Black
Rnd 17: skipped for size
This square barely required a mild blocking, so I used the wet blocking method
